According to a study conducted at the Center of the Developing Child at Harvard University, we can strengthen the fundamental capabilities of resilience at any age. However, the younger a person is, the more malleable or pliable their neurological and biological system -- making it an ideal time to lay the foundation for these critical skills.
Try as we might, we cannot hope to shield our children from challenges whether they are of seismic, life-changing proportions like a pandemic or a tragic loss, or present relatively mild daily disruptions, disappointments and outcomes that leave them unprepared. We can give them a toolkit that equips them to confidently respond with productive solutions that meet the needs of the moment.
Using my 5-C Parenting Model, I will give parents strategies for guiding their children to develop the self-discipline and resilience they need to conquer crisis. The essential elements of the model are:
- Clear & Concise Communication
- Compass (Boundaries)
